New SharePoint Search in Modern Pages

Hi

Does anyone know when this is being rolled out ?

I have a customer who wants search.

But I am not sure what to advise them.  Either use an existing SPFx webpart which interfaces with the existing search results page or wait until Microsoft roll out the new search functionality - whatever that might contain.

I thought the new Modern Page Search Functionality was slated to be rolled out by now, but I have seen no sign of it on my first release tenant.

Thanks

Nigel

  • Hello,

I think depends on how your client structures their contents/files. If they apply content types and metadata extensively, maybe deploying a traditional Enterprise Search center would be a good approach. That way you can leverage query rules, search verticals, custom Display Template, and many other search configurations depends on their business cases.

Yes - I agree.  But will all of this be supported by the 'New' search experience when it comes ?

I don't remember seeing anything about this in the SharePoint Conference last month. Did I miss something or has this been delayed indefinetly?

The last mention I saw was on the Message center with the following:

"We'll be gradually rolling this out to Targeted Release customers in late January/early February and the roll out will be completed by the end of March."

That also matches the Office 365 roadmap:

    Improved search experience in SharePoint

Rich previews of over 270+ different, people matches and personalized ranking of results to help you find what you are looking for faster, highlight the new experience for search in SharePoint. Builds on earlier personalization of SP Home, and as announced at Ignite.
