Move documents from site collection to a group site sp2016
Dears,
My organization has a series of group sites (each project has its own site).
Most of the sites were created as Group Sites (the new one) but some of them are still site collection (old ones).
We are trying to get rid of the site collection and have only Group Sites for our projects.
The problem that we are encountering is the migration of data from a site collection to a group site.
One of the site collection contains lots of folders and documents and i find it very hard to migrate them to the new Group Site.
What we have tried:
1. Use the Move to/Copy to functionality but unfortunately it seems that you can move documents/folders only within that site. (no option to move/copy them to the new group site)
2. Use classic sharepoint and open in explorer the libraries of the site collection and copy them (drag and drop) to the group site. The problem here is that this works only for folders, it doesn't copy the documents within them.
Our last resort it seems to be moving all the documents one by one, which will take ages due to the number of documents found within the site.
My question to you is, is there another option to migrate the documents from a site collection to a group site in a faster way? If so, please advise us on how to do it.
Many thanks,
Andrei Velio

- Well,
I would better recommend you to use a migration tool for this move...even with a Trial version of a migration tool you could make it- Brent EllisSilver ContributorWe are doing this exact thing, and chose to go with ShareGate (Lite). It is super easy to use and copies version history, people, all the stuff you need.
You can do it with custom code (e.g. powershell as well), but probably not worth the effort.
