Mondern New Button doesn't consider permissions

I have a communication site in which regular users only have contribute rights to the Pages Library and read rights on everything else. So that they can create news posts, but nothing else.

When testing these permissions on the homepage, I noticed that the new button still shows all options, including new list and library.

Is there anyway to hide this button, so my users don't get the wrong idea of creating lists and libraries.

  • Make sure they only have read rights to the actually site and that the user testing isn’t also a site collection admin.

You could also try making sure that the users also have their contribute rights from the homepage itself but it seems more likely you have those users nested in another group or something on the site permissions itself which would give access to creating everything on the pages.
  • Hi Kate,

Please recheck site permissions again. Also, clear your browser cache and try again.

I have created a new Comms Site and added a test user to the Visitors group. When I log in as the test user, I did not see the New button on the home page. Now using the site owner account, I have stopped permissions inheritance on the pages library and added few test users with contribute permissions.

Now when I log in as a test user, I do not user see the New button.

Please try this on a new test communication site.

    Hope this helps you.
