Modern Pages and News Features

Hi Tech Community!

We received some tenant updates and am trying to make sure I am in the know.

1. Some sites, not all, now have a "news" link in the left nav (quick links). Why some and not others?

2. When I use the "Add a page" I am now defaulted to the new "modern page" and am not clear how to best utilize it. When I look at write-ups on it they always show tons of features that you can use when you click the new + symbol to add content. I don't see anyway to add stanard libraries/lists to the page. Is this by design??? (see attached image)

3. The left nav (quick links) editing is a very inconsistent user experience. Is this going to level out or should I be training users the 3 ways it works depending on where you are?

4. Any suggestions/best practices for the new site pages? (btw, look great on mobile!)

Thanks!

There is no list/library web part (yet, I assume it is in the works)

They are also supposedly working on enhancing the menu navigation (but also no real info shared)

As for best practices on the pages, still very up in the air, as SPFX is being evolved, I still opt not to use the modern pages until we see more layouts (also supposedly coming), and better/more web parts

Its nice and shiny, but missing alot of functionality right now.

Thanks Brent. I agree with the "shiny"...missing functionality assessment. I really wish the deployment had not taken over the default action of "add a page".

Good to know that what I am seeing is accurate.

I guess when the full feature is rolled out it will be better.

      Thanks!
      • My 2 cents here about your questions :-)
        - The News link in the menu is going to be removed (Microsoft is working on a Fix according with a message posted here in the network)
        - You can still create other page types by browsing the site pages library and use the New menu there. But by default the new page type is going to be the new one you have just experienced
