Modern pages - highlighted content no results

Hi,

I tried to use the highlighted content webpart to search all sites for documents of a specific content type. When editing the webpart, I choose all sites and all content types as source. (I hope I'm using the right terminology since my SP is in Dutch) As Filter, I choose Managed property ContentTypeID equals GUID-of-my-contenttype.

This returns nothing.

I then created an old fashioned wikipage in the same site, and used the classic searchresults webpart. I defined the same query (look everywhere for contenttypeID = 0x0..). And there, I do get the results I'm expecting.

Can I conclude the highlighted content webpart is not fully operational yet? Or is there something you guys think I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

  • We've made an update to Highlighted content, to broaden Managed metadata queries to search for content types beyond what we manually filter for (e.g. Tasks, Issues, Events, Document, Pages, etc.).

Our initial design pre-filtered your managed metadata query by these content types.

Therefore if you were searching for something else (e.g. sub-sites), you would see no results.

    Now you will.

      Hi John,

What is the refresh rate for data inputs to the Highlighted Content web-part -- we're using a shared tenant. We've observed that if we update the Site Title, the old site title continues to show on the News articles in the Highlighted Content web-part... similarly, if we've changed the page title, it sometimes takes a long time to reflect on the highlighted content web part, or does not reflect at all.

Maybe a silly question but I brand spanking new to O365.  Can someone explain exactly what "issues" are in the context of Highlighted content?

Highlighted content is not yielding any results on one of my team sites using the default settings. It worked at one point, and I'm not sure what changed. If I expand the search results to all sites, then I see results from other SharePoint sites. Any ideas?

Nick - the default settings would show most recent documents on the site. Since you said it worked at one point, I assume there are still documents on the site (e.g. they weren't moved/deleted)?

Highlighted content depends on search, have you made any changes to search on this site?

Assuming for a moment there are other content types on the site (e.g. Pages, tasks, etc), what happens if you edit HC to show that content only from This Site?

We haven't made any changes that should impact basic search queries like this.
  • We've discovered an issue we're working on for some managed meta property types. I'll let you know when we'll have that fixed. Thanks for reporting this!

Mike - what are you seeing with events? Can you give me more specific repro steps? Thanks!

John_Sanders Yes, working now. I created a new one and events are showing. This is a good start. Unfortunately not THE solution for us, as we can not decide which fields to show. Now I have "title", "modified", "modified by". I would prefer "start time" and "end time" for example.

Hi Mike Jansen - sorry but still no change here. I guess the new pages are still being developed and not without errors. We decided to use the classic pages since they do work..
