Modern Lists Missing Ribbon to Add/Edit Items
Has anyone run into this with SharePoint?
In the modern experience, I’m not seeing the ribbon/options to add or edit items at all, but when I switch to the classic experience, everything shows up as expected.
I’ve checked permissions and basic settings, but nothing obvious stands out. Starting to wonder if this is a configuration issue, a feature setting I’m missing, or something specific to modern UI limitations.
Has anyone dealt with this before? What ended up being the fix? Thanks.
This is how my modern experience currently looks.
When I switch over to the classic experience, I can see those options again.

Yes. I have a request with MS. It's been escalated. We'll see what they are able to find.
This is something that's affecting all lists. Old and new ones. Once the item has been created through the Classic Experience, it can be edited. The bar appears briefly, before disappearing. I was able to catch it.
My user has Full Control in the site and list. If the issue were to be a Retention Label, I would think it would stop me across the board. However, I am able to Add items through the Classic Experience.

This is strange behavior. I hope you’ve already raised a ticket with Microsoft. I’m also interested to see what the final resolution is.
Are you able to edit items when you select a particular item? Are you able to see the “Edit in grid view” option?
Is this happening with all lists or only newly created lists? Is there any retention policy or label applied that might be preventing the addition or editing of items?
Did you check using F12 to see whether the row is rendering?
If a user has read‑only access on the list, it looks like the “Edit in grid view” and other buttons are still visible. - ppinzonCopper Contributor
I will also add that I've tested this from different locations, clients, and different browsers with no change in experience. This issue also persists across site collections.

This is an issue that everyone experiences. I've even created a separate site collection to test this - no custom CSS, or additional features. Only what's out of the box, and I am still able to replicate the missing ribbon in the modern experience. I can see everything when I switch to the classic experience.
