Missing an option in SP Admin Center for site creation
Hello, experts!
I'm currently restricting everyone except a group containing admins to be able to create O365-groups and it works fine, but I'm not able to turn the feature off in Sharepoint Online as I'm missing an option in the admin center.
I can only see "Hide/Show the Create Site command", not the whole "Show the Create site command to users who have permission to create sites", which makes me unable to restrict this. If I turn it off, then its gone also for the admins, and if I leave it on, everyone can make a site.
This is what I got:
This is what I need:
I've done this with other customers and the option was available for them.
What am I missing?
Best regards,
Thomas
- Restricting Groups creation to a specific Group (I assume you are doing that configuration in Azure AD) is not going to remove the ability to create modern sites from the SPO Home page what's is not a problem...basically, unless you want to remove the self-service site creation for end users this is the way it should work when Groups creation is only enabled for some people:
(1) "Regular" users can still create modern sites from the SharePoint Home Page
(2) They can create two kind of sites: Modern Team Sites not connected to a group (because it has been disabled for them) and Communication sites
In summary, site creation link in the SPO Home page is not going to create Sites connected to groups, only modern sites- Thomas HansenCopper Contributor
Hello again!
We never found out how to apply the settings I wanted in the snippets I took, but. what we ended up doing was just to hide the button in itself and started to use the 'Try preview' in SP adminportal. This works for us, and only admins can create teamsites now.
Br,
Thomas
Hm, I went to check on this in my SPO Admin center and wasn't even able to open it. It took few refreshes to finally show the portal, then I started getting another error when trying to access the Settings page. In other words, there seem to be some issues going on with the portal currently, perhaps as they prepare for the move to the new portal.
On a different tenant I tried, I can get to the settings, but only have "A new team site or comm site" and the "A classic teams site" option, not the "either type" option. Seems it varies a lot between tenants...
