Migrating Custom Developed Solutions from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2019

Hello Everyone,

We are planning to migrate from SP2013 to SP2019 via database attach method by building temp farm of SP2016.

I am looking for suggestion on Migrating Custom Developed Solutions from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2019. How do we do this or let say look and feel might be broken after migration/upgrade.. So do we work on this.

Will classic UI pages which is customized will work when it move to modern UI..

Thanks,

Manoj

When you move from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2019. most of the Customization will work as-is with minor tweaks in the Classic UI.

However if you are looking at a complete modern UI , they may not work.  Classic pages will remain classic. they will never automatically convert to modern.  if you want them in modern.you have to redevelop with the capabilities that you have in modern.

you can have all the pages in Classic while the Document library and List can have the modern experience. However this will be confusing to your users.

  • First thing you have to do is test your content database in a SP 2016 environmente to detect any possible issues you can have in the migration. Once you have done this, do the upgrade of your DB in a SP 2016 environment and them repeat the same steps in SP 2019. In regards of the customizations, they should work in both SP 2013 and SP 2019 with minor changes

      Hello Juan,

      Thank you for the reply.

We will focus on the database approach and see if any issue comes. My only main concern is we want modern UI in SP2019 and also with look and feel what our company want.

      Thanks,

      Manoj

        Hello Juan,

What exactly is required to enable the modern page experience in SP 2016 on-prem server? Is modern page is present on SP2016 or its only in SP2019.

        Thanks,

        Manoj
