Microsoft List (Preview) issues
Good morning,
I hope someone can help.
I am a private user, (with a Microsoft 365 Personal account, + addit. 600gb cloud storage) on my PC. I don't use sharepoint, or teams, the app is standalone on my pc as the preview.
I opted in to the Microsoft List Preview (without SharePoint or Teams) as it would fit in perfectly with my need to create a large catalogue with description, title, information and a single image on every entry.
The app went well, though (just FYI) I always had a couple of issues
a) no feedback buttons in the 'Give feedback' tab (so I could never give feedback.)
b) and I was always disappointed that there were only 3 options for exporting, CSV, CSV with Schema, and Power BI, since I don't know what the second two are, it was disappointing that I couldn't export to Excel, or PDF or Word, and that none of the options would result in the image being copied over.
However:
c) My real problem began yesterday, when I hit a wall with the number of lines/items. I'm only up to around 950, and I thought it was almost limitless. I can add lines, but no items or images to those lines. The drag-and-drop image function failed. I attempted to put them in manually, 'add image', image would load, but then I'd get error: "Site has exceeded its maximum storage limit.', and any text information also disappeared when saved.
I am also getting "Sorry, something went wrong. Unknown render failure, please try again or refresh the page." when trying to add anything.
I first assumed it was a storage issue, even though I thought the platform supported a unlimited amount of storage, particularly as I have a lot of storage on my account. I emptied some (outlook, onedrive) to see if that helped. It didn't. I have well over 20% of my cloud storage still available.
My questions:
- What's wrong with my "lists preview" that I can't add anything anymore?
- does it have an 'item limit'? or a storage limit? or an image limit? (that I've hit?) and how can I tell?
- I'm very worried that my list is in danger of being lost. Is there a way to continue using it on the Microsoft Personal account? and will it be permanent? or is it in danger of being discontinued?
- I need to be able to share my list with other people, while still being able to update it after it's finished. Is this possible in this Preview? if not, how?
My apologies for my lack of knowledge, and I thank you for any solutions or suggestions you might have.
thanks,
Jenny.

Thankyou for your reply, OK yes - I see and appreciate that it is tied to a 200mb per list limit.
I still have other questions however, based on your response.
1. As I have a Microsoft personal account, not a business one, I'm confused about how to get access to the full version of Microsoft Lists, as I understand it can be standalone, through Teams, and through SharePoint.
Can you explain the various ways I can get it?
2. I see there is a Q and A. Is Microsoft Lists discontinued? - Starting mid-November 2025, users will no longer be able to install or use the Microsoft Lists mobile app. Is there any risk with the PC desktop app?
3. If I were able to obtain a full version of the Lists app, would my current 'preview' list be able to be carried over to it? I certainly don't want to lose all my work.
Thanks for your input, I very much appreciate it.- PankajBadoniIron Contributor
The full version of Microsoft Lists is available only with Microsoft 365 business subscriptions.
Microsoft Lists is not being discontinued. Only the mobile app will stop working in November 2025.
You can still access your lists on mobile using a web browser.I am not aware that Microsoft has released any migration tool for moving from the MSA Preview to the full version.
You can either:- Use a commercial migration tool, or
- Manually export your lists and attachments, then upload them to the full version.

Thankyou for your response again.
Would you please explain a little further.- Can you give an example of a "commercial migration tool" that would work in my situation?
- When you say manually export, you mean by using excel? csv? etc.
- is there ANY way to save the current list to another format, other than Csv, or to print it, without having to screenshot every page?
- Once I have a list, is there any way two lists can be merged in the preview version? or the full version?
- Lastly, where are my lists (in the preview version) stored? There doesn't seem to be a way to 'save' the list myself, therefore no way to print it.
In the full version, is there a way to 'save' the list? on my One Drive for example? that would mean I could print it if I wanted to?
I wish I hadn't made the big catalogue on the Preview version. I should have been more careful about checking that it had the functions I need, but I find it bizarre that the preview version is not very user-friendly past the 'making' stage.

“Site has exceeded its maximum storage limit”: This is tied to the 200MB per list limit, not your OneDrive quota.
Limits in Microsoft Lists Preview (Personal Account):
MSA Preview allows each user to create 50 lists with each list containing up to 1,500 items/rows and 200 MB of attachments/storage.
MSA Preview is available online only and limited to 200,000 Microsoft accounts on a first-come, first-served basis. Not all features are available for preview and subject to change.
