List does not open in MS Lists app, cannot apply conditional formatting

Hello,

I am test driving a Teams Group, channel, and associated sharepoint. I have created a list in the channel, and am displaying it as a calendar. I would like to be able to color code this calendar using conditional formatting. When I try to open the list calendar in Lists, it defaults to opening in Sharepoint. This is a problem because the conditional formatting appears to only be an option in the Lists app. I need to be able to either: 

A. open the list in MS Lists to perform conditional formatting there

or

B. find another way to apply color coding
