Thanks Rob - this looks very much like a solution. I would be very interested in the Power App you set up to achieve this

Thanks RobElliott - I'm still learning PowerApps so this will be a good exercise for me . Can I assume this will work for a doc library as well as a list - is there any real difference between them as far as Power Apps is concerned (in this instance) ?

  Ray_B58 those instructions are for a document library. But the principle is the same with a list, just without the the launch function.

    Appreciate the writeup.
    
    Couple of questions:
    How would you apply directory text filters to the library? I managed to filter to a boolean 'isdirectory' true, but a directory text filter is proving difficult to manage.
    
    Can the return of entries(directories) be increased?
    How would you manage navigating through folder hierarchy in this gallery?
