Is it possible to separate a field's text/numbers by dashes?

Hi!

I would like to add a sharepoint column that will contain numbers and letters (Serial number) and it is always going to be 12 digits that need to be separated by to i.e. "xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx" Is it possible to create a field that will automatically separate the text/numbers by dashes?
