I don't see the modern sites yet.

I am a preview release user on office 365 and I don't see the modern site or any of the group behavior that people are talking about. I would like to start setting up sites with the most up to date site format.

What should I do to enable this? I thought ms would just flip a virtual switch.
  • At Ignite, several Microsoft people said it was only rolled out the 50% of first release customer.  It also sounds like they slow down their rollout process when the are "busy" with other high priorities, like getting ready for Ignite.  I hope it happens soon, since I'm still waiting too.

  • Follow the below instructions to try the Modern Lists preview:

    To preview modern lists:
Navigate to a list in SharePoint Online.
In the URL bar, add TryNewExperience=true as a query string parameter. Query string parameters are values listed after the address in the URL. A question mark separates the address from query string parameters.
If there are other query string parameters in the URL, add &TryNewExperience=true [ampersand prefix]
If there are no other query string parameters, add ?TryNewExperience=true [question mark prefix]
When you have finished previewing the modern experience, close the browser to reset to classic experience. For some browsers, you may need to clear session cookies to return to the classic experience.

  • I have been seeing parts of the modern sites in different tenants. I built a beautiful intranet page using Pages for a Lunch and Learn I ran for a client. The reaction to the Page was amazement. It's about time SharePoint became beautiful!

  • If you are referring to the Team Sites showcased at Ignite, they're not released yet.

    • Yeap, I don't recall someone from Microsoft saying that Modern Team sites are being rolled out...what you can test is the new Home page for both Groups and existing / new team sites.
