html5 style storyboarding of publishing pages

i want to change the display of the publishing pages to accomodate the html 5 style of display

where story bording is done.

I know that it is not recomended to tinker with the master page, however if there is a way to give it a look and feel of html 5 then it will be really wonderful.

Could you please help me with a link or two which i can use to change the layout of the pages.
