How to open unknown file types without download in Sharepoint?
In my case client has some not well-known files uploaded to Sharepoint Online document library.
File extension is *.bdoc (its Estonian digitally signed document format).
The problem itself is - when opening this file, user is forced to download it first.
Is it somehow possible to open this kind of files directly from Sharepoint Online?
I know for SP Server there was an option to
- set MIME type in IIS for this extension and
- set browser file handling (permissive or Strict) under web-application and
- set docIcon in DOCICON.xml.
Is there any option in SP Online to do similar actions?

One option is to create a custom file handler which handles your format. See https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/office365/howto/using-cross-suite-apps for more info.
Mihkel,
I don't think you can do this on SPO. Unless MSFT adds this file type to the list down the road, in which case you will be able to see a preview of it in the document information panel, but other than that, you would need to download the file.

- Correct, you cannot configure any setting in SPO in regards of MIME types...Microsoft is the only one that can do it. Taking into account your requirement (specific file type used in Stonia) I don't think you will be able to meet this customer requirement
