How to correctly override the view template when using JSlink?

We have been looking for an example where the whole view has been overriden using JSlink, but none found.

Can someone assist with either providing a small example or pointing to an existing example?
For example:

Override the list view, so it is not being shown in a table, but using other HTML elements.
