Hide Search Bar in SharePoint Online Modern Pages

I have a client who want to implement a custom search that query a remote system via a web service call. They would like to create a search box web part within the main body of the modern page, and disable/hide the default SharePoint search box.

Is there any options to achieve this in modern page?

Thanks in advance

  • Of course they are, but depending on the wide of the change it can be more or less difficult...does the customer completely replace Office 365 search for this custom search or is just only for one site?

It just for the one site - the modern home page. What the customer don't want is to now have two search box on a page. This would confuse the users.

And if you are using modern it could be more difficult to remove the default search box.. But you could add a custom webpart which searches a different system

Sure perhaps my question wasn't clear. My question is pertaining to the default search box. Can we remove it or is there plan to have such option in near future.
I was thinking of a work around of using a custom search result page that pick up the search term from a query string and then make the web service call, but modifying search result page is currently not working in SharePoint Online. I believe this is something that will come soon.
