Heading styles appearing differently on SharePoint Online
I’ve noticed that the heading styles are now appearing differently on SharePoint – has anyone else noticed this?
Heading 2 now looks like heading 3, heading 3 now looks like heading 4, and heading 4 looks really small.
I assume it's something that been rolled out recently (this week?). I have only checked in Edge as I don't have Chrome set up on my work computer, but I wondered if anyone else has noticed this?
Has there been an update to heading styles across SharePoint Online?
(And if there's a better place to ask this question, please let me know. This is the first time I've posted on this forum.)

EmmaCohen We are seeing it too and it is so frustrating. And sporadic, as someone else mentioned. And (sometimes) the headings look different in editing mode than they look when published.
Heading 2 and Collapsible Section headings used to match. Now Heading 2 is smaller and bold.
Heading 4 is smaller than the normal text!

I see some new information from Microsoft about the heading size changes in M365 message center and on M365 roadmap site.
Message center: SharePoint Online: New heading level options for web parts - accessible to tenant admins only
M365 Roadmap: SharePoint: Pages - Heading levels for web parts
If you are not happy with this change, raise a support ticket with Microsoft as suggested in my above response.

ganeshsanap THANK YOU!!
I will open a support ticket, as you suggested, and hope others will, too. The new sizing makes no sense in relation to the normal text size.
Additionally, it is not working consistently. Possibly due to the age of a page or some other factor.
For those who can't open the admin message, this is the complete message:
Coming soon: When authoring pages in Microsoft SharePoint, authors will be able to choose the heading level for titles in web parts to help define the hierarchy of information on a page. As we're introducing this new capability, we're also using it as an opportunity to align the default heading font size in the Text web part. New heading default font sizes:
- Heading 2 will now be 24, previously was 28
- Heading 3 will now be 20, previously was 24
- Heading 4 will now be 18, previously was 20
This message is associated with MC670896 Accessibility Improvements to Page Authoring (August 2023) and with Roadmap ID 387500.
When this will happen:
Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out early April 2024 and expect to complete by mid-April 2024.
General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD, USNat, and USSec): We will begin rolling out mid-April 2024 and expect to complete by early May 2024.
How this will affect your organization:
Authors will now have the ability to set their own heading level. If not set, the default will continue to be Heading 2. New and existing pages and news posts will see the new default heading font sizes.
What you need to do to prepare:
This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required. You may want to notify your SharePoint authors about this change and update any relevant documentation as appropriate.

Hey Ann, yes the smaller heading 4 is such a pain - it looks really terrible on the page now. We use it a lot within our pages. Thanks for sharing your experience, too. It helps knowing it's not just us!
It would be really useful to know if this is a permanent change or not.
Yes, Microsoft made this change in SharePoint:

- EmmaCohenCopper ContributorHi there, this is useful but it doesn't answer my question. Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my question. I knew about the changes in the link you shared, but the changes I'm seeing have only happened this week.
The functionality to add heading styles from heading 2 to heading 4 is the same. It's just that the style (visual look) of the headings themselves have changed. They are all look much smaller on the page than before. It's as if the styles of the headings themselves have changed across the whole of our SharePoint site. Does this make sense?- Hannah FedericoCopper ContributorI'm seeing this too. Not only did our headers change, so did the font weight and color. It's sporadic around our tenet and I can't figure out what happened. It's a real accessibility issue.
