If you are going to use Sharegate for the migration, you can make a direct migration...also since Sharegate uses Client Side Object Model to do the migration, you could potentially install when you want but in this scenario I would probably install it in the SP 2010 environment

    Thanks Juan Carlos,

     

    I am installing right now SP2010 in a virtual machine and I will follow your recommendation and install ShareGate in the same machine. 

     

    Once I am finish with the other vm (2013) I will make a test and I post the results.
