File ordering
Good Day
Our business has a common requirement in having documents ordered in various sub directories in Document Libraries based on a numerical column they use to assign the order of the files. Since now the mobile experience is key, we are seeing a different user experience and wanted to bring this out in case others have experienced this:
#1 Initial upload of several documents at once (i.e)
We get a different experience on the Desktop VS the mobile device (our case is iOS Devices). The order the files show up after initial upload is not the same wonder why that is the case (we have not specific yet a file order via the custom numerical column).
#2 Once we specify the order of the files via the numerical custom column
On the Desktop we do see the individual files arranged in the order we dictated (simple sorting on the numerical column) but on the mobile device we do not see that reflecting.
Is there some disconnect between the desktop and mobile experience when it comes to file sequence? We tested mostly with OneDrive Mobile App and a bit with the SharePoint Mobile App. its just odd that metadata used to enforce how files are presented is not consistent with the mobile experience. Any ideas on how to get this fixed will be appreciated.
JMB125 Did you create a new View or just modify the existing/default view?
If you created a new View, did you also adjust the Mobile settings for that view? For example, did you enable the view for mobile access? To do so, you have to go to the Edit page for the view you are trying to make available on mobile.
kevinmckeown8Thank you!. yes I did that but it did not make a difference. Regardless of the view the sorting rule is applied to the whole library so does not matter if the default view or another view created is used the sorting rule still applies as seen on the desktop. Also even if the sorting is not applied and we just upload several files at once, at that same moment we can also see that the order in which the uploaded files appear in the Desktop are not the same as how the OneDrive mobile app presents them to you.
