Exchange Online license needed for using mailing in SharePoint online workflows?

Hi there!

We're plan to use a workflow in SharePoint Online. If an action take place, a mail is send to a user.

Could this mail be send to an external mail address by default? We created some "Mail contacts" in the Exchange Admin Center but it's not working. Or is an O365-login needed for every user and therefore an Exchange Online license as well?

Or would a "Mail user" be the solution?

Preferably we don't want to use Exchange Online.

Thanks and best

Udo

  • Sorry I misunderstood your question.
You are able to send SharePoint Alerts to the users that already exist in the tenant including external users, but first they need to accept invitation. If you cannot send invitations or wait for acceptance, then you need to make customizations

      Thank you for your answer.

I don't want to mass mail. We will have some dozens of users when it's going productive.
