Excel Desktop App hangs when attempting to open documents from SharePoint to edit
User attempts to open Excel Documents saved in SharePoint by selecting Edit in Desktop App. As the Excel Desktop App begins to open a message displays stating: We have opened this document in Microso...
First run excel /safe from Windows + R, then try opening the SharePoint file. If it works, disable your Excel add-ins under File > Options > Add-ins.
If it still hangs, go to File > Options > Save > Cache Settings > Delete cached files, then restart Excel and try again. Also check that Excel and your browser are signed in with the same Microsoft 365 account.
