Error: Getting 'the workbook is currently open by 256 users'

Hi All, Unable to open a password protected workbook. Requests to open in Excel, When typing in the Password to open as Write access I get the error advising that 'the workbook is currently open...

I had a similar issue once and resolved it by downloading a copy of the file, removing the file in SharePoint and then uploading again.

If you check the file out before opening it does the same issue occur?

If you check the file out before opening it does the same issue occur?--> I haven't tried this yet.. Will update you on this and on removing the file from SPO and uploading it back.
