Enhanced rich text column and workflow email = plain text

Hi all

I've been having a bit of a play with Flow and Outlook/SharePoint integration and I've come across an issue with sending emails via Workflow.  Let me explain a bit more, emails land in a shared mailbox and Flow picks them up and fires them into a SharePoint list.  The body of the email is mapped to a text column on the list that is configured as "Enhanced rich text".  When the emails land all the HTML of the email is in tact within the list column - happy days!

I use good old Workflow to then analyse the content of the email and determin if a notification email needs to be sent to a particular team.  The email uses a simple look up function to populate the email.  The issue is that the column with the enhanced rich text is returned as plain text and thus the email sent has loads of HTML code in plain text which makes it hard to read.  Does anyone know of a way I can bundle up the content of the text column and push it into an email?

Thoughts?

Cheers, Rob

  • Which workflow action do you use for sending an e-mail?

How does the content look in the Multiline text field? Like HTML or like content with styling/formatting? Screenshot?

How are you inserting the content into the e-mail body? Show the dialog!

I just tried with the Send an Email action and had no issue.

      Hi John Aage Andersen

Thanks for the reply, I was just putting together the screenshots and I noticed that the emails are now (as in the last 12 hours) were coming through as formatted HTML.  Thinking that I was going completely mad I had a look back at previous emails sent by the workflow and they were formatted plain text - phew! not mad!  So I am not sure what is going on here, maybe the Halloween ghosts are having a laugh with me or maybe re-publishing the workflow yesterday did something.....!

Just for info, the workflow email is/was configured exactly like your screenshot, like this:

      Gotta love IT sometimes!

Good to hear that it seems to be working now. Maybe it was just a hickup with one or a few messages. Kind regards, John
