Edge ignores library setting to open documents in desktop app

One of my clients is using Edge and reports that where last week, Word and Excel files would open in the desktop app when clicked in a SharePoint library, they now open in the browser.

 

Is anyone else experiencing this? I have had the same issue with Chrome for quite a while, but not with Edge.

 

The library settings are to open the document in the desktop app.

 

Why is Edge ignoring this all of a sudden? It causes disruptions in the previously smooth flow of work.

    Hello IngeborgHawighorst,

    We're experincing the same behavior, the library setting works well when using IE11, but that configuration seems to be ignored when using new Edge browser.
    Did you get any update regarding this?
