Change Sites URL

I have a request from a users to change a SPO URL, and wondering if this is possible.  We are not talking about the root URL, but a sites URL.

We have domain/sites/name and domain/sites/name1.  What we are trying to do is rename domain/sites/name to domain/sites/nameinternal.

Been doing SharePoint for a while and even though I'm asking this I don't think its possible as once a URL is used it can't be renamed.  There are no Office365 groups associated with the sites.

    Greg,

I'm confused because you allude to different things.  You say it's not a root site, but you give site collection root URL examples.  If this is a standard subsite (I believe modern or not) Tanya is right, just site settings and logo/URL.  However, if this is a Communication site or just site collection root site like you suggest at /sites/name, this URL cannot be changed (which is why the same URL box is hidden).  If this was on-premises you could create a new site collection and potentially if the content DB is its own use the same DB on creation.  Every modern site is its own site collection and therefore its URL cannot be changed.

Support for renaming the site collection URL and one of these days tenant URL is coming. Site collection rename sooner than tenant. It was on the roadmap at ignite just don't recall how far out. But you can't do it just yet from UI.

I will be a nice feature, but certainly hate dealing with broken links

I believe you just go to Site Settings > Title, Description, and Logo then at the bottom of that page you will see 'Web Site Address'
