Banner on sharepoint sites
Hello Folks,
What is the best way to place a banner on all sites (on all non system pages) within a site site collection on o365?
the sites in the site collection are a mixture of both team and publishing sites.
is a script injection on the masterpage the most ideal way to do so?

Script embed through custom action would be the ideal way for classic sites, but it might not be applicable for the Modern team sites and Office 365 group sites.
- In modern team sites & group sites (by the way, some kind of sites behind the scenes) you already have some tools to accomplish this...there is a replacement of the Script Editor WebPart created by Mikael Svenson that can help you and also check PnP resources about provisioning options here
Lets not get into Mikael Svenson's Script editor replacement WebPart, it already created storm of discussion whether its best practice or not. To keep it simple, only branding option available as of now for modern sites is to use the custom theme aka composed looks.
- I would recommend to provision your JavaScript at the page level and not necessarily at the master page level
