Automatic Site Storage Management
We are looking at increasing the default site storage quota as we provision new sites (no self site provisioning yet enabled for us). However, we came across the SharePoint Admin tenant setting choice for automatic site collection storage management. Wanted to ask if anyone have had experience with this setting to better understand what is really outcome/impact of this change. It looks like new site collections created will have a 25 Terabyte storage limit. Not sure yet what happens with existing web site, will their storage limit get increased as well to 25 Terabytes. Also, do we really get 25 Terabytes consistently assigned to all site collections or will there be an adjustment be made automatically once you start reaching your tenant storage capacity. For example lets say we have 110 Terabytes of tenant storage limit. We can fit in 4 site collections with the 25 Terabyte limit, will it mean that other sites will have to have a smaller quota (10TB left on the tenant) assigned to them automatically? Just wondering how this automatic allocation of 25 Terabytes works keeping in mind we have storage limits on the tenant so that we are not providing storage quotas that cannot be realistically met based on the tenant storage we have purchased. Thank you!
Existing sites will get their limit increased to the maximum site collection size (currently 25TB). Once you're running out of available storage in your tenant you'll just need to buy additional storage. Nothing will change as far as I know in the quota for individual site collections but you will ultimately run into warnings / errors related to no more storage available (I don't know the exact behavior).

- Paul is totally correct :-)...and of course, saying that a Site Collection can store up to 25 TB in SPO does not mean you have that 25 TB ;-). Automatic quota management is great because you don't need to worry about reaching storage limits while manual quota management is just the opposite

Thank you all the responses, I appreciate it. Interesting learning existing web sites will also get adjusted to a 25TB quota. One other related question is regarding some site templates. For example Communications site. I did notice that those seem to be assigned automatically 1024GB quota even though you may have automatic storage management in place. The same seems to apply to the personal blog site that gets created when you start leveraging a personal blog from your Delve page. I saw too that Modern Team sites created as part of TEAMS have a 1024GB storage quota. Has anyone noticed this and may know why this is the case? Thanks!
