Auto-populating Hero Web Part with News Posts?

On communication sites I think the hero web part looks great with the full width column. However, it seems that in order to add content to the web part you need to manually insert links and images for each tile.

We want the hero web part to be used to display important news articles, but without somebody having to manually update the web part for every new article. Is there a way the web part can be automated, so that news articles automatically add to it and replace whatever is existing? Perhaps a flow that can do this?

Thanks

  • FYI at SPC Microsoft said they will be releasing a HERO layout for the news webpart so that’s coming. No idea when but don’t think it’ll be too terribly far out.

Hope so, this would be really useful and cut down on busy work for our admins managing the page.

Alpine_Miller Tile styling in the news web part has hit our tenant (regular) and looks quite nice:

This image has 4 displays, but it goes up to 5.

As an alternate, you could forego the full width header and add a News web part to the top of the page. We feel like the full width hero was overpowering the page anyway. The 'Top News' web part layouts out quite nicely at the top of the page.

  • Toby McDaid Unfortunately no. Hero Web part is essentially a fancy quick links web part, so you cannot automate the content to be sourced from News.
