Authentication Required for External Users accessing Modern Team Sites
Hi all,
So here's a peculiar situation I've been facing. When I create new SharePoint Modern Team sites and share them with external users, they are always asked to authenticate. There is nothing on the page besides the OOTB search bar, current navigation, and some other controls on top.
Authenticating with the credentials they used to access the site doesn't work.
When I look into the Developer Tools, I see the following errors:
GET https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/sites/ModernTeamSite/_api/SP.Directory.DirectorySession/User(principalName='hanielc%40gmail.com') 404 (Not Found) GET https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/search/_api/search/query?querytext=%27*%27&ClientType=%27TeamSiteSearch%27&Properties=%27ClientFunction%3APersonalRelevanceContext%2CFetchPersonalRelevanceContext%3Atrue%27&EnableQueryRules=false&ProcessBestBets=false&BypassResultTypes=true&ProcessPersonalFavorites=false&SourceId=%278413cd39-2156-4e00-b54d-11efd9abdb89%27&suxrid=ms-oil-datasource-spopersonalcontext 403 (Forbidden)

- If you guys don't mind, go post on my post about this, saying that you have the issue too, I have this post linked in my support ticket. When it gets done I'll update there. Also I can link to them showing hey, more people do have this same issue as well.

- Probabaly the same issue I’ve been dealing with guest access and the people card. If you turn “comments” off on your page so that people circle with the hover card doesn’t render you won’t see the prompt. Same with created by or modified columns on lists and libraries. I have a ticket with Microsoft but I keep getting the go around with them and not sure I’m getting any traction. If I don’t hear anything Monday that they are at least confirming they are working on it I’m going to start making some noise about it cause it’s been broke since guest access in Teams came out.
Mark-Kashman, is this a known issue? Any recommendations we can provide to our external users?
