Adding Columns to Share Point Site
Hi community!
Hope everyone is having a great start to their week. As I am on my journey to learn how to configure SharePoint and use it to our liking. I come across some head scratchers. I am having a difficulty understanding how I add certain columns and show actual output. I've attached a picture of what I'm trying to accomplish.
In short. I want to add an Author column that will display the persons name under author that uploaded it. How can I do that? I thought about making a Colum called Author which is easy enough but I'm not sure how to tie it to the column. Please help. Thank you!
Ziriux You can rename (change the display name) "Created By" column to "Author" by following below steps:
- Go to your SharePoint library where files will be uploaded
- Click on Settings (gear) icon from top right corner and select Library settings --> More library settings
- From library settings page, scroll to the Columns section and click on Created By:
- From column settings page, change column name to "Author" and click "OK" button to save the changes:
- Now go back to the SharePoint library and you will see the Created By name is changed to Author:
Fun Fact: The internal name of Created By column is Author by default in SharePoint.

Ziriux why not just display the created by column which will show who uploaded the document?

Ziriux I don't understand what you're sayng. Just go to library settings and changethe name of the column from created by to author. It will then show that in the library.
