Setting a default calendar for all new projects

I want to set up my Project 2019 so that every time I open a new blank project it defaults to a particular calendar that I have created. Can this be done, or do you have to open a new blank project and select the calendar?

  • Hi Glen.

    1. Modify the Standard calendar of any mpp project with your custom data and keep it open in memory.

    2. Copy and replace the modified Standard calendar from the open mpp file to the Global.mpt file, through the Calendar tab of the Organizer, in Menu > Info > Organizer .

From that moment on, new projects will be assigned to your standard calendar by default.

    I hope I've helped.

I so appreciate the responses from both of you, so Thanks for that!
In the end, I think John made a good point and decided against what I had planned on doing, which was described well by Ignacio. I added the Calendar I created to the Global templates with a different name than "Standard", and I will just select it for each new project.
Thanks again to both of you.

    GlenF1960,
You can certainly do what Ignacio suggests but I recommend against it. Why? Because now your "Standard" calendar will be different from the default Standard calendar should you need to share your file with other users. I always recommend creating a new custom calendar, perhaps based on the Standard, and then select that calendar when you open a new project and set the project's parameters (i.e. start date, calendar, etc.)

Hello Jhon, I think you are wrong. Even if a Project file that has the modified Standard calendar assigned to it is shared with another user, it will not affect other files in any way, nor the definition that that other user may have in their standard calendar. That other user will see the project the same as the one who sent it to them and it will not imply any change to their default configuration.
      Best regards.

        Ignacio,
You are correct in that another user will see the modified "Standard" calendar if they open the file. However, if that other user creates a new file using the Standard calendar, it will be the Standard from their Global. Wait!, Whoa, what's going on here, "my Standard calendar is not the same as the "Standard" calendar in this other file"

Project can be confusing enough without adding more "curve balls" into the mix.

So yes, you did answer GlenF1960's question and you should get credit for that. I just wanted to point out a potential issue with doing when he wants.
