Restricting Edit Permissions in Microsoft Planner

Hello everyone,

I'm currently using Microsoft Planner for project management and collaboration within my team. However, I've encountered a challenge and would appreciate some guidance.

Is there a way to configure Microsoft Planner so that only specific individuals, such as my manager, have the ability to make changes to the tasks and plans, while others can only view them? Essentially, I'm looking to prevent general team members from altering the plan, while granting full editing rights to my manager.

Any tips, tricks, or insights on how to set this up would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

I also have had this use case - features to enable member permissions on planner would be very helpful. This limits members from modifying or accidentally changing plan information. I shouldnt have to go to MS Projects to use permissions - that defeats the idea of using premium Plans (P3, P5, etc.)

  • Do all of your Team members have a Planner and Project Plan 3 license (I'll call it P3)? You can limit some of what the team members can do if they do not have a P3 license. The P3 licensed individuals (The PM, your Manager) can create and manage Premium Plans in Planner. The remaining staff members (with M365 work accounts only) will only be able to update Progress and provide Task Comments. I have a client that has adopted this as their corporate practice. Team members update the PMs using task conversations and then the PM updates efforts, dates, etc. Send me a note if you would like to connect. (FYI, Microsoft is not investing in Project Online product development; they are focused on the development of Planner.)

I also hope that this feature will be added to Project for the web soon.

  • Hi,

Unfortunately Planner does not support that scenario. I will recommend you to take a look to Project on the Web and the different SKUs they have so you can review it can/can't meet your requirements
