Search not working in Outlook 2019 since updating to Monterey 12.1 on the Mac
There appears from other sites to be a very widespread problem with search not working in Outlook - no results obtained in Monterey- since the latest OS update. Rebuilding spotlight does not work and many people cannot change to the new version of outlook as they are served by older versions of Exchange Server.
It looks like a bug, but any ideas gratefully received.

Running below commands helped on M1 MAC OS Monterey 12.3.1 and Outlook 365 v16.60 to trigger indexing to happen again and help search start working in finder for files & folder and emails in old outlook.
sudo mdutil -a -i off
sudo mdutil -a -i on - MarcCaliforniaCopper ContributorBut if you don't like the "New Outlook", you can subscribe to the Outlook Beta updates channel and install 16.58 where the search function works on the traditional Outlook UI on Monterey 12.1 (and probably 12.2).

SCSW_2021 I just bought a new laptop with Monterey, am having the same problem, and wondering if there is any response yet.
- ajmartonBrass ContributorGo back to page 6-8 and you will find the likely solution regarding the installation of the beta via the beta channel on Outlook updates. "...MacOS 12.2 beta 2 fixed the Outlook search issue!! I'm currently using Outlook 16.58 (22010302)...."
- nickba78Copper Contributorjust did the procedure for installing beta.It installed 16.59 and using also Monterey 12.2 no solution yet.Have you figured out any solution yet?
- fjimenezCopper ContributorMac OS 12.2, outlook 12.57, at least 4 hours with Microsoft on the phone, done everything and nothing works.
I even completely erased my MBP M1 and installed fresh OS 12.2 and fresh outlook 12.57, search does not work, what a pain this is- MarcCaliforniaCopper ContributorWhy don't you try installing Outlook 12.58 from the Beta channel in the MS update app? 12.58 should work

I just updated to Mac OS Monterey 12.2 and the Outlook Search problem appears to have been fixed.

It is a bug and one that I worked for a month with Level 2 and 3 MS support. Though they have then dropped the ball. No information back from the techs as to when or if they will ever bother fixing it.
Its rendered outlook almost impossible to use. If you can't search it makes organizing emails very difficult. The fact that i have 2 tickets with MS and nothing after more than a month is pretty disappointing.
At first they seemed to blame me and the system. had me rebuild my outlook profile multiple times and the spotlight index. They found it pretty shocking this didn't fix it and had me re-do it several times.then they figured out it was a bug on their end.
Then they let the issue go into a blackhole. Who knows if they even are looking into a solution at this point.

Outlook fixes have been out 2 weeks and this is now an old issue
- Also there are meant to be spotlight fixes in 12.2 that are considered helpful.
- MS Supports seems completely non-joined up. There must have been thousands of the same complaint, but a long period of trying old fixes for everyone. Unfortunately MS outlook has had a bad relationship with spotlight and problems were not uncommon in the past and this did not help. The new outlook when finished uses a different method and should be more reliable,
- Matthias_WagnerCopper Contributorcrholden MS support is crap but if you have read this thread, you would know that 16.57 already solved the problem. Cheers!

Matthias_Wagner 16.57 hasn't fixed the issue for me. I still have the problem. not sure what you mean its fixed. I just reverified I am 16.57

Hi, I'd like to echo the positive result that the upgrade to the latest beta-version of Outlook, i.e. 16.58 (22012401), immediately and completely solved the search issue, without the need to switch to New Outlook. I now have full (and fast) search functionality also in my large collection of mail folders On My Computer. I hope that this is of help to everybody who has been struggling with this issue since the introduction of the last macOS update/upgrade. Good luck! (SCSW_2021
- deejinozIron ContributorThis is how Microsoft are going to continue to treat its customers, simply because they have realised they can. Microsoft "incentivise" or "persuade" us to move to their "new look" Outlook with a thousand tiny cuts and a few nasty big gashes, like this one!
Break stuff in the current version leaving us no choice but to jump ship to their newer and less viable alternative that is still missing basic functionality and has a whole bunch of its own problems.- EBaron125Copper Contributor16.57 solves this issue. You don't have to use the new outlook layout. The new outlook layout still is not usable buy a lot of us as it does not allow contact lists
- MarcCaliforniaCopper ContributorThe 3 biggest issues I have on the new Outlook is that the Rules function does not work on IMAP accounts, viewing email headers only show limited information, and the UI is too spacious to show all my accounts without scrolling
- Matthias_WagnerCopper Contributor16.57 is officially launched and solves the search issue!
- VinceP22Copper Contributordon't see it using Microsoft update and the version on the Microsoft Dowload is .56

I have got i through MS AutoUpdate this morning, maybe you have to wait for a while.

but i have the 16.58 beta - how can we go back to 16.57 Matthias_Wagner
- Matthias_WagnerCopper Contributor
mike_vienna unfortunately this is not an easy task.
You have to reinstall 16.56 (or restore from time machine) AND delete your database and let it be rebuild. Do you have your mails on an Exchange server?
If yes, this will work, if not I am not sure if this can be done.
From there you can update to 16.57
