Search not working in Outlook 2019 since updating to Monterey 12.1 on the Mac
It is a bug and one that I worked for a month with Level 2 and 3 MS support. Though they have then dropped the ball. No information back from the techs as to when or if they will ever bother fixing it.
Its rendered outlook almost impossible to use. If you can't search it makes organizing emails very difficult. The fact that i have 2 tickets with MS and nothing after more than a month is pretty disappointing.
At first they seemed to blame me and the system. had me rebuild my outlook profile multiple times and the spotlight index. They found it pretty shocking this didn't fix it and had me re-do it several times.
then they figured out it was a bug on their end.
Then they let the issue go into a blackhole. Who knows if they even are looking into a solution at this point.

- deejinozFeb 04, 2022Iron Contributorcrholden , Did you see my reply? Do you have any special characters in the path/profile name you created for Outlook?
- crholdenFeb 04, 2022Copper ContributorI did have a & and I removed it and repeat all the processes.
Still no luck with searching …
- Matthias_WagnerJan 31, 2022Copper ContributorI am running macOS 12.1 und the update from Outlook 16.56 to 16.57 fixed the issue. (Had to run Spotlight reindexing once after the upgrade)
I have 2 different Office 365 account and one Gmail account. - deejinozJan 31, 2022Iron Contributor
crholden Have you seen this issue, regarding a special character in the folder name for your Outlook profile?

In my case I had rebuilt the profile (when troubleshooting the indexing problems created by the buggy releases from Microsoft and the sh!tty, childish fight between Microsoft and Apple that has continuously caused indexing to sh!t itself, over the years) with an ampersand "&" in the profile name. A character perfectly allowable in a file and folder name on both macOS and Windows but not in an Outlook profile path! If Microsoft had built their software properly, the application error exception handling would not have allowed me to include a character in the profile name that is not supported by itself. But why let such things get in the way of getting a half baked product out to market, to rake in more $!?
Why would MS spend money on building usable and reliable software that actually delivers what it says on the tin when they can instead deliver substandard, buggy software that ticks a few functionality boxes and just hooks you deeper into their ecosystem?
This period will definitely go into the history books as the age when the over commoditisation of technology, in pursuit of maximum executive and shareholder return, led to a collapse in trust in the technology industry.
