Outlook 365 suddenly won't open
Hello; Outlook worked this morning, now it won't open, says to open in Safe Mode, but that doesn't work, tries to open for 5 seconds than nothing. Restarted PC and no help. Please advise! Steven F 603
Steven F, original poster here: my Outlook just fixed @ 1:20 Pm pst, I tried it and it opened right up. Hope the same for all of you, maybe 1 at a time! Thanks all.......

I was having the same issue then opened in safe mode (press and hold ctrl and click on the outlook icon) it seems to work fine now... I haven't tried restarting since the safe mode outlook start so I'm not sure if I'll need to do it again or not....Steven_F_603
Steven_F_603I've got the same issue with 3 of my users so far one had an update to their Windows 2004 build last night, but the other 2 didn't have any updates. Started around 11 am this morning and it's also effecting shared mailboxes. I've had users sign into Office 365 online to be able to work.
Steven_F_603i did this which 2 people said worked and it was instant. i didn't have to remove the windows update.
open cmd, run:
cd \Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun
then enter:
officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.6366.2062
- Same problem since this morning. Opens in safe mode but won't open in regular run mode. ALL add-ins disabled. Reinstalled and repaired.
There's a note on this thread about this (https://blog.lan-tech.ca/2020/07/15/outlook-fails-to-start/) potentially fixing the issue, however I noted that at present the update mentioned on this page isn't installed on my machine but is a pending update. But maybe worth having a look for some of you?
Same here in Washington state....sucking up hours of my time this morning trying to fix. What is Microsoft doing about this????

According to the Service Health Page they have located the problem and are suppose to be rolling a patch out to fix it.

I've got the same problem as well, Outlook 365 won't open, not using anything fancy just POP and IMAP email, was working a few hours ago, started my laptop and then it's suddenly not starting, asking for profile choice. Why can't Microsoft leave things that aren't broken alone and make sure they test their updates properly. The email profile settings all in place via the Mail Icon in 'Control Panel' but when I did get it once it's like none of the email accounts were there and I was starting Outlook from scratch. Tried adding my Gmail account and pointing it at the right data file but no joy, wouldn't connect to the data file and neither would it retain the settings and open Outlook again. Get it fixed Microsoft...!!

same here. My outlook will not open unless in safe mode. I tried to disable add-ons one by one, but that is not working. Lori
