Non-breaking spaces by default
OK I found the source of this issue. The user was using an internal translation tool which used NBSP by default, I simply told her to paste the content using "text only" option.

I cannot access the user's machine right now but I can tell from the tests I have done with her that the "space" key inputs NBSP instead of regular spaces (I've seen them in the format view). Btw that was how I found out about non-breaking spaces, which I didn't know existed.
I will ask her for informations about the other Office apps.
And here is one more "off the wall" suggestion. I've seen strange things happen in Office depending on what Font you are using, particularly with older fonts. Never seen Plain Space being converted to NB Space, but just for grins, try composing in a different font.
And there is always, of course, the old completely uninstall, reboot, install from scratch.
