Files shared with Anyone sometimes prompt users to request acccess to the file
Hi Lavan Jeeva,
Totally understand the frustration here (and largely feel the same way). We see reports on this occasionally but our ability to reproduce & determine the exact cause hasn't shown us any results. Fiddler traces are the most useful tool for us to help root cause this but obviously tough as it requires a certain amount of prescience to have Fiddler running before the one in a million glitch 😞 I do keep an eye on this thread in case anyone shares something that helps us break through here and do keep submitting support tickets in case that avenue turns up something as well. In the meantime, the team will keep looking for solutions here. Appreciate everyone's help in watching for this!

StephenRice I don't know if this has made any further traction in the Microsoft teams, but I am having this problem and just opened a Support case to investigate. Mine is very consistent and I have a few sample links I can share in a document to demonstrate the issue under various conditions. When using the links, the user is prompted to login whenever they attempt to access a file. The behavior is slightly different depending on the file type and depending on whether they access a file or a folder. This can be easily verified by opening the links using an Incognito window to ensure there are no issues with authentication tokens or other tenancy.

CameronGo I have had a ticket open for months, with no progress. They want me to recreate the issue while logging, but it is random and I actually haven't had the issue for a while. Let me know if you make any progress with your ticket. I even referenced this thread.

StephenRice we are having the exact same issue as the OP. Even the same "Second time clicking the link let the person access the document." It just happened with a document I shared to our IT department, so I can get you some specifics if you need them.

I serve on an All Volunteer Fire Board and we are using OneDrive (free version) temporarily until we can hire a vendor to manage our document management needs.
I have set up a OneDrive account for the storage of all our electronic documents. I have shared access with everyone sending an invite to the OneDrive by using their official email accounts for the fire district. We are using G-Suite services in case that is relevant. Two of the people have had no issue accessing and uploading documents, but then one person can access the OD in the invite sent from the OD account and can see all the files and folders but when they try to upload documents they are prompted to log in w/a username and password. The other person when taking the same action from their OD invite can't even see the files and folders and is immediately prompted to login w/a username and password.
So, then, I sent them a link with "Anyone can access" permissions and have the same issue as noted above. I have used OD for several years and never had these kind of issues.
As an aside, I had the clear their cookies, browsing history and cache and restart their browsers. One of them uses an Apple laptop and Safari. I had them try Chrome and had the same outcome. The other person uses WIndows 10 and Chrome and they also cleared everything but also still has the same issue.
I am at my witts end. These are board members that need access to these files. I really don't want to give them the password to the account as they are not very tech savvy and they have been known to lock themselves out of their own accounts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would even be willing to pay a small fee to get help on this.
TIA!!!

StephenRice we are also experiencing the same issue. Sometimes with some internal staff, but mostly with a particular guest user. I did have a ticket in with Microsoft, but because it's vendor we were unable to run Fiddler. We ended up closing the ticket and calling it a browser issue. However, if this is not the case, then I too would like to a resolution.
Our case is similar to everyone else in that it's difficult to replicate and the link works after a couple of tries. It has always worked in a private or incognito window.
Let me know if this get resolved.
Thanks!

just wanted to chime in that things remain hit or miss and MS has got nothing for us. we could go months with no reports of this issue and then all of the sudden i could experience it myself. at this point i suspect it happens more than i get open tickets for it due to users expecting the behavior. generally close the browser and hit the link again seems to do the trick but something is broke for sure.
