OneDrive stopped Syncing

Hello All, thank you in advance for any advice or help...

I recently noticed my OneDrive stopped syncing with my laptop and some of my OneDrive files were not accessible through my file folder in my laptop. I'm not very tech savvy so not sure how to approach turning it back on.... It seems this happened after upgrading to windows 11.

Initially, it was only my files in OneDrive that were syncing (not any other personal or document files on my laptop). Unless i selected the autosave option in Word or Excel. After syncing stopped for my OneDrive files and not understanding what was going on, I have been saving OneDrive files in my Laptop, but they have not been syncing to OneDrive. On top of that, i was also opening inaccessible files in OneDrive online, and saving there as well.

This means i might have two different versions of the same document ?

1) a newer version, saved on my Laptop, in Onedrive folder

2) older versions in OneDrive.

3) OR, Vice Versa.??

I looked at turning on syncing in windows 11 settings, and it shows 3 options. it looks like I don't have much choice to just turn it on for my original OneDrive and nothing else on my laptop and it wants me to back up all documents ..

My main concern is that if I succeed in Syncing my business files again (original OneDrive folders) , i might lose the most recent version of some documents, considering I was operating in both the online OneDrive and in the Files on my laptop which are isolated from each other..... I don't know which version will be saved & synced ?

Hopefully all that makes sense.. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

  • You may indeed have multiple versions of documents. I cannot stress enough that you need to have backups of documents outside of the OneDrive/SharePoint system (ditto Dropbox etc).

Make (versioned) backups of your local files before turning Sync on again. Your description doesn't have enough details to be clear if you are saving local files inside your OneDrive folder or somewhere else on your hard drive(s).

Also, just got a notice that a new app has access to my data "Microsoft Tech Community connected to the Microsoft account br**e@*******************.ca."

I know i gave permission for the sake of posting in here, but what does this kind of access mean ?

BruceG87 It's not very clear what you're talking about in each sentence. Remember we're not looking over your shoulder

Notice from where? In what context? Why do you think MTC has access to data other than your user account information?
