OneDrive stop synchronizing

When I try to upload a lot of files to oneDrive, about 5000, onedrive syncs and uploads an average of 200/1000 and stops syncing and gets stuck without uploading anything. The only way to resume the process is to restart the computer or the service.

I agree with Diego2410, just wanted to confirm this in 2026. I was working with 13000 files. Eventually all files were sync'ed, but it took a couple hours. I had to build the folder a couple times, same result. The sync processed about 500 files, then paused for a few minutes, then started again with the next 500 files. There is nothing that I have found that will restart or avoid the pauses. It is frustrating that the answers in tech forums always ask, "Are you SURE there is nothing wrong with your files?" Then there are a bunch of suggestions including reinstalling OneDrive.

Don't reinstall the OneDrive app. Don't reboot. Either use OneDrive or don't, but if you use it, you'll just have to wait it out.

  • Diego2410  There can be many reasons why this happens, for example, the size of individual files. Have you seen https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/restrictions-and-limitations-in-onedrive-and-sharepoint-64883a5d-228e-48f5-b3d2-eb39e07630fa#individualfilesize and verified that your files are not subject to the restrictions listed here?

MagnusGoksoyrOLDProfile  I read your link, it's seen like it's an expected behavior. But for me occur with only 7K files and is stuck every 500 more or less, it takes so much time to up all the files. I fulfill all of the other requisites, thanks for your help.

Check you're not syncing too many files

If OneDrive sync seems to be stuck for a long time or the status shows "Processing 0KB of xMB" it could be because you have a lot of files in your OneDrive or a lot of new files to be uploaded. If you have more than 100,000 files, sync can take a long time.
