Onedrive opens other document then asked

Hi all,

I know it may sound weird and/or stupid, but whenever me or my colleague open a document in our shared Onedrive sometimes it opens a whole other document. When I close this, and try again one or two times, it usually opens the correct one.

for example: I want to open document "A" in folder "AA" so I double click this one and it opens document "B" that is stored in folder "BB". The opened document is called "A" though, it just has the data from document "B"

It's not all the time, but often. I think it might be Excel only, but not entirely sure.

How is this posible? How can I fix this? It's getting pretty annoying.

    Hi Lydia221,

Based on the information provided in your question, I believe that the most likely cause of the problem is a OneDrive cache corruption issue. To fix this, I recommend that you try reseting the OneDrive.

To do that, follow these steps:

    1. Press the Windows key  and to open the Run dialog box, enter wsreset.exe, then select OK.

    2. A blank Command Prompt window will open, and after about ten seconds the window will close. You can close the Microsoft Store window.

    3. If OneDrive is still not syncing, press the Windows key  and R again.

    4. Copy this and paste it into the dialog window, then press OK.
      %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

If you see a "Windows cannot find..." message, copy and paste this instead, then press OK.
      C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

If you see a "Windows cannot find..." message, copy and paste this instead, then press OK.
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset

    5. Manually restart OneDrive by going to Start , type OneDrive in the search box, and then click on the OneDrive desktop app.

    You can also check:

    1. Online Version: If you are using the desktop version of Office applications, try opening the files in the online version (Office Online) through your OneDrive account to see if the issue persists there. Sometimes, the problem might be specific to the desktop app.

    2. Browser Compatibility: If you are using a web browser to access OneDrive and open documents, ensure that you are using a supported and up-to-date browser. Microsoft's recommended browsers for OneDrive are usually Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
