Onedrive LOSES my data
Check if OneDrive saved a previous version
OneDrive does keep version history for files:
- Go to OneDrive online (onedrive.live.com).
- Navigate to the folder where your spreadsheet is stored.
- Right-click the file → Version history.
- Check if there’s an earlier version that contains your stock entries.
- If you find it, you can restore that version.
Important: Sometimes the desktop app shows “Saved” even if it hasn’t fully synced to the cloud yet, especially if you’re switching networks or devices.
Check local versions
Excel also sometimes keeps temporary auto-saved copies:
- Open Excel → File → Info → Manage Workbook → Recover Unsaved Workbooks.
- Look for files that match your spreadsheet.
- Open and save them somewhere safe.
Make sure OneDrive sync isn’t broken
Common reasons OneDrive can “lose” data:
- File didn’t fully sync before closing Excel.
- Conflicts: if you opened the file from multiple devices.
- Selective sync: some folders might not be syncing properly.
Check OneDrive status (icon in the system tray):
- Green check: synced
- Blue arrows: syncing
- Red X: sync error → click it for details.
Regarding your comment about the website not showing your profile posts: it sounds like you’re referring to OneDrive’s web interface. It doesn’t show file activity the way social platforms show posts—OneDrive only shows recent files and version history, not a complete log of everything you’ve edited across devices.
- OneDrive does not guarantee a visible log of every single edit you make.
- It only tracks saved versions of a file (version history) and recent activity.
- If your changes weren’t fully saved or synced to the cloud, there won’t be a trace online.
So for your lost spreadsheet:
- Just because Excel said “Saved” doesn’t mean OneDrive successfully synced it.
- OneDrive’s web interface won’t magically show your missing entries if they never made it to the cloud.
- Your best hope is either:
- Local Excel autosaved or temp files (on your computer).
- Earlier versions in OneDrive’s version history, if they exist.
Basically, the web interface can’t recover unsynced work — it only shows what actually reached OneDrive.
