OneDrive deleted all cloud files after enabling folder backup on a new Computer
My previous laptop was broken, and the files stored on it were no longer accessible locally. The Documents, Pictures, and Desktop folders were successfully backed up to OneDrive and were available in the cloud.
After receiving a new computer, I signed in to OneDrive and enabled the folder backup (Documents, Pictures, Desktop). Immediately after doing so, OneDrive removed all the existing files from the cloud. It appears the empty local folders on the new computer overwrote the cloud content.
I have checked both the OneDrive recycle bin and the second‑stage recycle bin, but they are completely empty. I also tried the “Restore your OneDrive” feature, but it only removed the remaining empty Documents, Pictures, and Desktop folders without restoring any missing files.
