OneDrive claims that there is not enough space to sync or upload my files when there is enough space

I've tried to unlink and re-link my desktop app, I've tried to access via the web browser and the outcome is the same.

I'm not responding directly to this problem but as it seems impossible for me to start my own discussion - one aspect of my complaint about Microsoft - I thought I might add my thoughts here.

I use OneDrive EVERY day, almost always on the same two laptops. Today, however, a powercut forcing me to seek a cafe for several hours, I tried to sign in to my Microsoft account on my 'travel Mac' and it has been an hour of total hassle.

    • It will NOT recognise my CORRECT password, then soon tells me I have tried too many times (your not saying, wonder why!)

    • I try to sign in with a code sent to an alternative address but this takes AGES to arrive - this morning at least 15 minutes - by which time I've tried something else and the code is no longer valid.

I used the passkey method which went on and one until I got the messages below (see screenshot)

    • Getting any kind of help on the phone here in the UK is nigh-on impossible - the phone message lazily istructs you to go online for help, ignoring that the very reason you are ringing up is because there is no effing help online!

Essentially, MS is just too big, rich, complacent and stupid to care about service and helping the customer. It is pointless going around in circles just because you can no longer be bothered about your customers. I am now

totally effed and cannot get on with necessary work because I can't get into OneDrive. Thanks a bunch MS.

. . .  and when the code FINALLY arrives and I input it, I get this! For effs sake! Get your effing act together and spend less time counting your trillions of dollars, cretins.

  • This issue usually happens when OneDrive’s sync cache gets stuck or when there’s a mismatch between what’s stored locally and what Microsoft’s servers think you’re using. Try signing out of OneDrive completely, then deleting the local OneDrive cache folder (you can find it by typing %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive in the File Explorer address bar). After that, restart your computer and sign back in. If the problem continues, go to the OneDrive web app, click the gear icon → OneDrive settings → Storage metrics, and check if there are any hidden or orphaned files taking up space (like old “Preservation Hold” folders). Clearing those usually fixes the “not enough space” message.
