Missing OneDrive options in classic context menu - Windows 11 24H2

HI
A few days ago, OneDrive options have gone from the Context Menu (classic - I didn't go back to a new context menu).
That happened on two computers

OneDrive version 25.149 (I enabled preview as I thought it may solve the problem, the issue happened once I was on the production version)

I found an old topic there with registry key deleting, but I don't have these keys.

My menu looks that:

No option for OneDrive - share, download, save on disk, previous version. OneDrive is set to files on demand.
Is there any option to restore this option? Without resetting OneDrive/reinstalling it?

You’re not alone — the missing OneDrive context menu options in Windows 11 24H2 have been reported by several users recently, especially after updating to newer OneDrive builds. Since you’re already on version 25.149, it looks like this may be tied to the ongoing transition between the classic and modern context menu handlers.

A few things you can try before doing a full reset/reinstall:

🔄 Restart Explorer & OneDrive – Sometimes restarting File Explorer (explorer.exe) and the OneDrive process clears handler issues.

🗂️ Check Group Policy / Registry – Ensure that shell extensions for OneDrive haven’t been disabled. (In some older fixes, users deleted legacy registry keys under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers, but as you mentioned, those may no longer exist in 24H2.)

⚙️ Run OneDrive Repair – Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon > Settings > About > Run repair (if available in your build).

📦 Preview vs. Production builds – Switching between preview and production channels can sometimes cause conflicts; a clean update via the standalone OneDrive installer may restore missing entries.

If none of the above work, it’s likely a bug/regression in the latest builds. In that case, I’d recommend submitting feedback through Feedback Hub and monitoring the OneDrive release notes — Microsoft has been tweaking context menu integration in recent Insider and production updates.

For now, you can still access most of these OneDrive functions from the system tray icon or the web portal until the context menu behavior stabilizes.

In business environments, context menu extensions are sometimes blocked by policies or by how the client is installed (per-user vs per-machine).

Here a Steps where you can try to Restore Missing OneDrive for Business Context Menu.

    Check for Blocking Policies

Some orgs (or security hardening tools) disable the Explorer shell extension.

Look under these keys (remove if present):

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Appx

    Values to check:

    AllowDevelopmentWithoutDevLicense

    AllowAllTrustedApps

    Also check Windows Installer policy:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

    HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

If you see AlwaysInstallElevated=0, delete it.
This specific setting has been shown to break the OneDrive context menu in business setups.

After changing: restart Explorer + OneDrive, or just reboot.

Note: If you’re on OneDrive for Business and your machine is managed (domain-joined, Intune, SCCM, etc.), then:

    • Local changes to policies may get reverted after reboot or after the next Group Policy refresh (usually every 90 minutes, or at login).
    • If your IT department has set those registry keys via GPO, they will come back unless the policy is changed centrally.

    So the answer is:

    • On a personal/business laptop not joined to a domain → once you remove those blocking registry values, they should stay gone.
    • On a domain-joined / managed device → they will be re-applied automatically by Group Policy unless your admin changes the setting on the server side.

    Hope this will help you.

      Hello,

Similar to the OP, I am seeing the same issue. I maintain our GPO policies and can confirm that we have not made any environment-wide changes. The context menu with OneDrive options were there one day, and now they are not.

I have also checked my registry keys, and the above-mentioned do not exist. Any other ideas as to why this is suddenly happening?
