Why Teams is slowing down my Mac?
- Sep 16, 2020
2 of my colleagues mine experienced warped MAC batteries (and cases) as a result of their machines overheating - caused by Teams. Indication is fan staying on for a long time (all day?) which cant be healthy. Im told the solution they found (probably through online search) was to change the setting in Teams to disable GPU hardware acceleration. Worked for me! KHartman
For what it's worth, Teams (especially video calls) destroys performance on my newer MacBook Pro but seems to work fine on my older MacBook Pro. Could this possibly be about an extra .3 GHz in processor speed?! (other newer mac specs exceed older mac specs)

Wow, this is crazy, mine is 2.6 ghz i7 6 cores and it's the worst ever 😫
For better performance, I'm using teams on my iPhone or iPad to ensure the Mac keeps working for whole day long, this is just a harsh we might need to live with.

This is my mac:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
It has dedicated graphics card (AMD Radeon R9 M370X), but, when I use it, the performance was horrible and the power consumption and temperature increases a lot!
Then, I decide to disable the gpu acceleration and gets a better performance, but still not the best!.

spazCR Any updates on this? We rolled Teams out and the Mac users are pretty hampered by this resource issue. We are trying to do away with Zoom but with the Teams app killing resources during calls, it's not helpful for adoption.

blk55 Nah, no updates on this, apparently they don't care hahaha, sadly, I need to take my calls and video calls on my iPad or iPhone to avoid having these issues, this is just unbelievable and disappointing, now we need to wait to see if the new Macs with Silicon have better performance on this and other issues that definitely kill the good performance Macs used to have hahaha
