Webcam image is horizontally flipped
- Jan 30, 2020
Hi,
When you see your selfview in Teams it will be flipped, so it is easier for you. But when the other participants in the meeting see your video they will see it the correct way. So text will be mirrored for you but the correct way for others.

- Simon_KaneFeb 09, 2022Copper Contributorit is not easier for me everything is the wrong way round and it feels uncomfortable if people want mirroring it should be an option not an imposition

My image is flipped on in team, and when the person at the other end looks at me the image is still flipped, when I but text in front of the camera, they see the text upside down. It work good with skype but I haven't found solution for Microsoft Team or Zoom
- LinusCansbyJul 21, 2021MVPHi, that sounds strange. The only mirroring that Teams does is the one for selfview. Check if you have any settings for your camera, ex. a logitech application if you have a logitech camera.

Yes the self view is flipped in team, I have no problem with that, but the other at the other end get the flipped image too. I been trying everything for a month now with no success. I starting to believe that the problem is at the other end, because when I but a text in front of the camera it's upside down. When I view the text in the self view it's flipped horizontally, I think that ok, but the others should see the normal text. I will be meeting personally with one that I do video conferencing with and we do a video conference side by side and see if he is the problem or me. The test should be done in a few weeks. Thank for your response.

LinusCansby Why can't we configure the camera to work the way we think it should? Did Microsoft actually do usability tests before deciding we had no choice in this matter?

efglynn Voting for the uservoice is the best way to get a change.
Toggle video camera mirroring on or off for Teams calls – Microsoft Teams UserVoice
Microsoft tests all functions before releasing them, for Teams they are working with different rings and releases features internally first, then to some organisations, TAP users etc, and finally to all Teams organisations. So either they haven't got any comments or they decided that a toggle switch for video mirroring was not that important compared with other features.
- efglynnJan 15, 2021Copper ContributorMicrosoft's testing is often inadequate. The process to fix anything is glacially slow.

LinusCansby This is NOT true. I tested it with a coworker. While on a video call I asked him: "Which hand do you think I have up?" I had raised my right hand. He said: Left. I then showed him sign on the wall and asked what it said, he told me it was a mirror image of the sign, all the letters were backwards.

The problem is that this is not true. I understand how it's supposed to work (although again I find the mirroring useless and something I want to turn off.) However, at least in together view what other people see is still my flipped image. I even had my team lead provide a screen capture demonstrating that he sees a mirrored view of me with all the text backwards.

Varjohaltia Yes, the Together Mode will show you in the same way as self view, probably since you are seeing yourself in that view. I Large Gallery View your video is the correct way so that text in the background is shown the correct way.

how is this the solution?
it is NOT easier for me when flipped....everyone says its harder but microsoft does not care about its customers
- Jesse_LittonApr 05, 2020Iron ContributorSheez... I'm glad I found this thread. I've been putting flips into my ffmpeg/gstreamer/obs loopback streams to work around this problem... and now I find Microsoft thinks users are using their cam and Teams as a mirror.
At the very least, they should add a "mirrored locally only" disclaimer where they now have "preview" in the device settings.- Greg_ChestertonApr 15, 2020Copper Contributor
Jesse_Litton I am as confused as I was before. Maybe you can solve my problem...sounds like you had a eureka moment. I am trying to use my Lumix DSLR as my webcam. I have a converter that allows the Lumix to be recognized by Teams/Skype as my webcam. But as noted in this thread, the image appears flipped on my Teams window, along with everything else in the image (furniture, etc.). I must assume the image shown on my Teams window is the same as what other people see. Is that incorrect? Are others seeing a "normal" version of the image?

Microsoft
In the video recording as well as the live stream that everyone else sees other than you, they see everything the proper way...

My webcam image is upside down on ms teams. how can this be fixed?
- NenadXMar 10, 2021Copper Contributor
We had these basic video options even in Windows 3.11 time.
It is amazing how MS manage to loose many common options in the last decade.
Personal preview is not there to give me look at myself in a mirror, but to be sure that everything I am sending to others is presented in correct way.
Does someone from MS read our posts? It is not bug discovered after latest update.

This is incorrect. Other participants in the meeting are seeing a horizontally flipped image as well.

Technodude : On teams, I am seeing right image but the other person/people on call are seeing mirror image or flipped image. This makes my face look bigger on one side and is cause of constant embarrassment. Zoom and Skype have toggle button to switch how other may be seeing you.
Please share how I can change how others are viewing my video. I believe this is a basic function and would appreciate quick answer. Else, we would have to change the use of teams to zoom for entire organization.
