VIEW ALL PARTICIPANTS IN VIDEO MEETING
- Mar 30, 2020
Right, lots in this thread to unpack.
1. The 4 video view will work in the desktop app on Windows, Mac, Linux or the mobile app on Apple or Android. It is not possible in the browser. I don't believe this is likely to change in any useful time period.
2. The 9 video view is in development, and Microsoft have heard loud and clear from MVPs that it's important. As far as I know it won't be here during April.
3. The view you see will always be the students that talked most recently. If you keep your students muted and unmute to speak it shouldn't be confusing to work out who is speaking.
4. As the teacher you can select any of the students in your meeting to view their video by clicking on the ... next to their name in the list of attendees and selecting pin, once you have finished unpin to get back to active speakers.
4. Your school districts are probably wise to not permit the use of Zoom, they have a responsibility to not allow your student data to be accessed by third parties or several other risks. Look up zoom bombing if you think it'll be fine, or when zoom were sending data to Facebook without permission, or when hackers worked out how to access private meetings.
5. Teams has very good controls to allow you to keep order during a meeting, controlling who can speak, present etc. It's harder to achieve this in Zoom. Tips in my video attached.

Bonnie2020 Did you use the desktop client? (https://teams.microsoft.com/download).
LinusCansbythe english version I have installed seems to be the latest, I got as latest "what's new" the feature below. I suppose a 3x3 mosaic feature would show up in the "what's new"...

Tugsim Haha. Well, I have an update from the product team.
"I wanted to clarify that the 3x3 video is currently rolling out, and we expect it to be enabled for 100% of users in the Public ring by May 15th."
*fingers crossed* 😉

I wholeheartedly agree (or whichever way is misspelled 😁)
- TugsimMay 12, 2020Iron ContributorI'm just an old, cynical b*stard - still sticking to my guns on "believe it when I see it", which stood me in good stead back in 2017, again when April was suggested, again when the start of May was promised, and still stands the test of time today.
Think someone "put it on the Laterbase" as we engineers say... - ChristianBergstromMay 11, 2020Silver Contributor
Tugsim Updated!
"I sincerely thank everyone for your patience and enthusiasm. I know know those of you who haven’t received 3×3 view are anxiously awaiting this popular feature request. As you know, it is important for us to roll out gradually as we monitor signals to ensure the quality of our service remains high. This particular rollout has required a little more time than expected. At this point, we look to be on track to complete enabling for all users in the general public ring by the end of this week.
As I’ve said in past posts, we are continuing work to increase this limit even further."

- TugsimApr 24, 2020Iron ContributorYup, appreciate that - but as it's been promised "soon" several times before, I've learned from painful experience not to believe in MS's promises until they're actually delivered.

Tugsim Jeff_Williams I acknowledge your responses as it can be quite frustrating when asking for new and updated features, especially when a suggestion has been posted a couple of years ago. But to be fair, this is unprecedented times and the need increased rapidly. At least they acting swiftly to get it out now, that is 3x3 (with more to be added).
- TugsimApr 24, 2020Iron ContributorThe first recorded request for this was in 2016, and they said in 2017 it'd be ready "soon"....

Yes I understand that, however they having been saying that increase since 2019, and it keeps getting pushed back every couple of months.
- mslexijoApr 23, 2020Brass ContributorThanks for the clarification! Look forward to it.

Hello, as been mentioned several times in this conversation the number of participants that can be viewed simultaneously during a Teams meeting will increase from 4 to 9. As for the roll-out they said "We'll begin rolling this out in late April and expect to be complete by early May". They are working on increasing this limit even further so that more participants can be viewed simultaneously.
Regarding Teams client updates, the interval normally occurs every two weeks. If a critical update is required Teams will bypass this schedule and release the update as soon as it's available. As far as I understand this is defined as such.
- mslexijoApr 21, 2020Brass ContributorThey said end of April for 3x3 so any day now.
The reason Zoom is in trouble is bec their default was bypass the wait room. Better safe than sorry. You can set it up when you set up your meeting to bypass.
