Quick update, Looks like MS made some changes that they didn't realize would disable GIPHY.
Microsoft’s June 2025 service update flipped the tenant-wide policy called “Allow the use of additional optional connected experiences in Office” to Disabled. That single switch powers every “cloud-backed” add-on inside Teams, and GIPHY is one of them. When the switch goes off → the GIF button disappears, even if your Teams messaging policies still say “Use Giphy = On.”
Step-by-step (cloud policy portal – quickest)
- Browse to https://config.office.com (Global/Intune/Teams admin credentials).
- Customisation → Policy Management → Create (or edit existing).
- On the search bar type optional connected.
- Set “Allow the use of additional optional connected experiences in Office” → Enabled. • Scope the policy to All Users or a security group that needs GIFs.
- Finish and Publish. Policies take ~15–30 min to reach Teams; ask users to sign out/in or restart the client.
