Teams Meeting behavior - what happens when max attendees are reached
Hello,
My company needs to know what happens when a meeting hits the maximum number of attendees. (public/general release)
- Will the meeting automatically convert to a view only meeting?
- Or will the attendee be denied access?
- Will the attendee receive a notice of any sort explaining why access is denied?
Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

Hey AaronThorne
I havent checked it personally but Microsoft did release documentation around the view only experience being available this month.
Try running : Set-CsTeamsMeetingPolicy -Identity Global -StreamingAttendeeMode Enabled via teams powershell.
The meeting would convert to 'view only' upto 10k users joining in. Here is some documentation :
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/view-only-meeting-experience
Please note that the limits apply to a meeting an not a call initiated from a group chat.
Thanks
Thanks
- AaronThorneCopper ContributorHello all, we had 320+ attendees (which is over the 300 limit), no one was denied access, and the meeting did not convert to a view only experience. (granted we hadn't activated the view only experience). Maybe we have been moved to the 1000 limit already?
